Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):
1. What type of visa you will need?
Students require "ED" for which AIT provides an official letter through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On arrival visa are granted at the port of entry only to those who are from the countries listed at:

Participants who are from the countries neither visas are exempted, nor from the countries which are listed in on-arrival visa, should arrange visa from their own country applying to Royal Thai embassy or Consulate. If there is no Thai embassy / consulate in the country, they should go to another country nearby. Please check here to see them: http://www.thaiembassy.org. Also, participants need to keep in
mind that it may take 3 days to arrange Thai visa. Those who are from the yellow fever declared countries (see list at: http://www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123/15384-List-of-countries-which-are-declared-Yellow-Fever.htm need a certificate of vaccination) and they have to show to the health control section before heading to immigration counters:
2. How do you get to AIT upon arrival from the Suvarnabhumi airport?
Travel from Airport to AIT: Go to one floor down to catch 'PUBLIC TAXI'. Find self-operating KIOSK for taxi. Just press the button on any of the machine to get the queque number. Go to the taxi under the que number. Tell the driever that you want to go to 'AIT'. The staff will give you a paper. Taxi may ask you to negotiate when you start. But tell the driver go by METER and via 'MOTORWAY'. Taxi fare to AIT should be around 500 Baht (or US$10-15). You will need to pay 30 Baht (=US$1) as tollway fee twice and 50 Baht as service fee on top of the amount showed by the taxi meter. It should not take more than an hour. At AIT gate tell them you are going to 'AIT Center'. If you face problem, please show our telephone no. 089 816 7712 (Ms. Chanyapat) or 081-7316934 (Ram) to the taxi driver.
3. What type of accommodations are available?
For students on-campus accommodation is provided which costs around US$150-300/month depending upon the type of room chosen.
AIT has also a 3-star equivalent hotel on-campus which includes broadband LAN connection or wifi and swimming pool. However, the flood in 2011 damaged some of the installations and repair work is on-going that means frequent power cut off may occur. Price is approximately US$60/night (two persons can share).

4. Where is AIT located?
AIT is about 60 km north from the Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) International Airport and approx. 1 hr by taxi. Similarly, its only 42 km north and 1-hr by car, bus and minivan from down town Bangkok (Victory Monument).
5. What type of weather is in Thailand?
Weather in Bangkok and around is always hot (up to 35 deg C). There is no winter, coldest temp is 22 deg C.
6. Is Thailand secure?
No major concerns. Thailand (except deep south) is one of the safest countries in the world!)
7. What preparations do you need before you leave?
Casual dress, easy to work in the field and even in ponds, other items e.g. hand globes, shoes covering angle, hat/cap, sun glasses, sunlotion and insect repellent will be helpful. A laptop, CDs/memory stick, camera and mobile phone will be useful. Local SIM can be purchased at the airport.

8. How can you pay fees and cover expenses?
Cost of living: participants should have adequate funds to cover all expenses such as food, accommodation and other personal items which they will pay by themselves to the hotels, food vendors and others. They should have insurance of their properties and also health / life insurances. There is a bank branch at the gate of AIT campus. ATM machines accept major debit and credit cards.
